Arnadur Indridason (b. January 28, 1961) is the author of 9 fast-paced detective stories and one thriller. He is a historian and former journalist and film critic. Indridason specialized in writing on films and bestsellers and mainly worked for Morgunbladid, the biggest newspaper in Iceland, for 20 years.

When finishing his degree in history at the University of Iceland his dissertation was on Icelandic films. In 1991 he was one of two authors of an Icelandic movie guide where 2,000 films were reviewed. He has also written articles on Icelandic films for Eurimage and The International Film Guide.
Indridason has through his work studied the narrative technique of films and bestsellers, and the methods used to keep the reader/viewer interested throughout. When his first book was published he said on TV: “You learn a lot from bad movies – how one should not tell a story!”

His father, Indridi G. Thorsteinsson was one of the most prominent Icelandic writers in the twentieth century so one might say that it was quite natural for Indridason to follow his father’s example, although their writings are very different.

Arnaldur lives in Reykjavik with his wife and three children.

In Russia the rights to the informal trilogy Jar City, Silence of the Grave and Voices have been acquired by Corpus/AST Publishing, Russia.
